Learning Enrichment

LEARNING ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

The Learning Enrichment Program at Mary’s Mount Primary School is dedicated to identifying and supporting academically high-achieving students by offering opportunities for extension and enrichment.

Designed to ignite curiosity and deepen understanding, this program provides engaging, thought-provoking, and challenging learning experiences that encourage students to expand their metacognitive skills. Through a variety of thinking strategies and personalised learning styles, students are empowered to maximise their potential within a supportive, like-minded peer group.

Across all year levels and subjects, teachers differentiate the curriculum to cater to individual learning needs, fostering higher-order thinking skills and intellectual growth. Continuous assessment ensures that academic programs remain tailored to student abilities.

Beyond the classroom, students participate in enrichment activities that challenge their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. These include competitions, guest speakers, and unique learning experiences such as:

  • Tournament of Minds
  • STEM Initiatives
  • Maths Competitions
  • Solar Challenge
  • Performing Arts

By providing these opportunities, the Learning Enrichment Program nurtures a dynamic learning environment where students are inspired to excel, innovate, and thrive.

INTERVENTION

Learning difficulties can have a cumulative impact, affecting not only a child’s academic progress but also their emotional, social, and behavioural development. At Mary’s Mount Primary School, we believe that early identification through processes such as Kindergarten screening, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and On Entry assessments is key to ensuring that students with additional needs can fully engage in their learning and school community.

LITERACY SUPPORT

Intervention is tailored to individual student needs using the UFLI program and a tiered approach:

  • Tier 2 support is provided within the classroom to assist students in developing their literacy skills.
  • Tier 3 support is delivered through small-group withdrawal sessions for more intensive intervention.

The goal of this program is to ensure students meet year-level literacy benchmarks, equipping them with foundational skills for lifelong learning.

NUMERACY SUPPORT

The Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) program is a research-based intervention designed for early learners. Proven to enhance students’ confidence and mathematical abilities, EMU provides:

  • 30-minute sessions 3 times a week
  • Small group instruction
  • Support within the classroom

This targeted support ensures students build essential numeracy skills in a structured, engaging environment.
