MARY’S MOUNT HISTORICAL WALK
Station M – Administration Garden and Our Lady’s Statue
When the 1945 Grotto was demolished in 1996, the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes was relocated to the front of the Administration block at Mary’s Mount. The statue, along with a plaque explaining its history, now stands in a large rose garden. The Rosary Garden is also nearby, reflecting the school’s long-standing devotion to Our Lady.
Part of the Terrazzo Altar from the original Grotto was saved and will be included in a new Grotto for the school’s 100th Anniversary. The Administration block also features the latest Mary’s Mount crest, symbolizing the school’s commitment to living in Truth and following God.

When the 1945 Grotto was demolished in1996 we had to find a home for the statue of Our Lady. As our school is called Mary’s Mount we decided to put the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes right out the front of the Administration block. There was already a large rose garden there as some of the 130 old original roses had been transferred across in 1986 when the old building was demolished. A plaque was placed on the plinth to explain that the statue had originally been in the Grotto and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception/ Our Lady of Lourdes has welcomed students and visitors to Mary’s Mount since then. It is fitting that the Rosary Garden is on the other side of the frontage bringing together the special devotion that the Mary’s Mount school community have had to Our Lady for so many years.
We were able to save part of the Terrazzo Altar from the Grotto as well and that and the statue of Our Lady will be incorporated into the new Grotto to be built for our 100th Anniversary in honour of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
In front of the Administration block is the latest Mary’s Mount crest incorporating a cross at the top, the double M, the Christian sign of the Fish and the 1970’s Motto TRUTH which speaks to us all to strive always to live in Truth and follow the one true God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
